Kicking it at the East West Samurai Classic

The last weekend before Team Douvris heads off to Dublin to compete in the WKC World Championships found us in Mississauga where we took part in the Samurai Classic tournament hosted by East West Karate. And we were thrilled to have a lot of newer Team Douvris competitors make the trip to compete in their first big out-of-town tournament.

The day started strong with black belt divisions. Sensei Robbie took gold in traditional weapons, creative weapons and musical weapons, as well as bronze in point sparring. Sensei Calvin took silver in point sparring, while Sensei Brigitte took gold in traditional kata. Then it was time for the coloured belts to test their skills. Bianca took bronze in point sparring (9-10 intermediate), Catherine took bronze in point sparring (9-10 advanced), Caleb won silver in kata and in point sparring (11-12 intermediate), while Nancy won silver in kata and sparring in the adult advanced division. In point sparring 9-10 advanced, Team Douvris boys owned the podium with gold (Isaiah), silver (Kaleb) and bronze (Rhys). Bronwyn, Payton, Katarina, Katie, Éloïse, Liam, as well as Sophia and her father Shawn all made strong showings in their respective divisions. We are very proud of our newer team members who stepped up to the mat and gave it all they had. Way to go!

We ended the day with adult black belt sparring divisions, where Sensei Brigitte took silver while Jevon won the men grand championship.

Big thanks to Christina Magliocco and her fantastic team for a successful, well-run tournament!
