History
DOUVRIS Martial Arts is a karate family.
Founded in 1984, the DOUVRIS name has been synonymous with excellence in karate in the Ottawa-Gatineau region for 40 years.
Brothers Master Sensei John and Master Sensei Peter opened their first dojo so they could share their enthusiasm for karate with the Ottawa community. They wanted to create a karate school in Ottawa that would provide people of all ages a family-friendly place to gather and train at their own pace. Today, their philosophy resonates throughout the Ottawa-Gatineau region, and DOUVRIS has grown to nine schools, including Bank Street, Riverside South, Ottawa East, Westboro, Kanata, Kemptville, Barrhaven, Orleans, and Aylmer. Each school is owned by a former DOUVRIS student(s) who are devoted to cultivating the practice of karate, supporting the pursuit of fitness, fostering kinship, and developing leadership among people of all ages.
DOUVRIS Martial Arts is focused on creating a consistently high-quality experience across of its dojos. High teacher-student ratios, all-inclusive membership, a formal leadership development program, and the ability for students to set their own pace are just some of the things that set DOUVRIS apart.
As DOUVRIS Martial Arts in Ottawa has grown, Master John and Master Peter - as well as all of the dojo owners - have become active contributors to the Ottawa community. They embody the leadership values they nurture in others and regularly contribute to community and charitable organizations, including organizing an annual Kicks for Heart fundraiser for the Heart and Stroke Foundation and raising money for Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario, Multiple Sclerosis Society, and the Ottawa chapter of the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of Canada. Most recently, we’ve also we have contributed to Kids Kicking Cancer Canada.
