Free Bully Buster Clinic at DOUVRIS Bank St. — Saturday, April 18

Bullying remains one of the most common challenges kids face — at school, online, and in social settings. And while no parent wants to imagine their child in that situation, the reality is that most kids will encounter it at some point.

That's exactly why we're hosting a free Bully Buster Clinic at our Bank St. Dojo on Saturday, April 18 at 3:00 PM.

What Is the Bully Buster Clinic?

Led by Shihan Suba and Sensei Makayla, this 90-minute session is designed to give students real, practical tools to handle bullying situations with confidence — not aggression.

This isn't about teaching kids to fight. It's about helping them stand tall, stay calm, and respond safely when it matters most.

What Students Will Learn

The clinic focuses on three core areas rooted in martial arts principles:

Awareness — Recognizing potentially unsafe situations before they escalate. In karate, we call this zanshin — the practice of staying alert and present. Students will learn how to read their environment and trust their instincts.

De-escalation — Using words, tone, and body language to defuse confrontation. Martial arts teaches that the best fight is the one you never have. Students will practise verbal and non-verbal strategies that reduce conflict without physical engagement.

Self-Defence — Simple, effective techniques that any student can use if a situation becomes physical. These are age-appropriate skills drawn from karate fundamentals — practical, easy to remember, and built on the confidence that comes from knowing what to do.

Why Martial Arts and Bully Prevention Go Hand in Hand

Karate and martial arts don't just build physical skills. They build the kind of quiet, grounded confidence that changes how a child carries themselves — and that alone can be one of the most effective forms of bully prevention.

Students who train in martial arts tend to develop stronger self-awareness, better emotional regulation, and a sense of personal responsibility. These are the same qualities that help kids navigate bullying without escalating or shutting down.
