Team Douvris at the Toronto Tournament of Martial Arts Champions
On Friday Team Douvris zoomed down the 401 again to take part in the Toronto Tournament of Martial Arts Champions at the Hershey Centre in Mississauga.
In underbelt adult forms Krissy Sakamoto earned a bronze medal (beginner) while Nancy Baker took silver in the advanced division. The kids did us proud too in their kata divisions: Éloïse Kuelz (9-10 intermediate, traditional forms) and Alejandro Miguelez (7-8 advanced, traditional forms and traditional weapons) finished in fourth place, Kim Hopkins (7-8 advanced, traditional forms) and Hana Sakamoto (6 and under beginner, traditional forms) got bronze, Katarina Tessier (11-12 advanced, Korean forms), Isaiah Lang (9-10 advanced, traditional forms) and Caleb Lang (11-12 advanced, weapons) earned a silver medal while William Carr (9-10 advanced, traditional forms) won gold.
In black belt divisions Ben Clarke took fourth place in weapons and won gold in traditional kata. Malik Thomas got fourth place in traditional kata and traditional bo. Robbie Hughes won third place in musical bo. Megan Bowman finished fourth in traditional forms, second in Korean forms and first in kung fu forms. Brigitte Pellerin got silver in traditional kata while Subhadra Shrestha dominated her four divisions, winning gold in traditional kata, Japanese forms and traditional challenge as well as the Grand Championship.
In underbelt sparring, Isaiah Lang (9-10 advance boys), Nathan Gourde (7-8 intermediate boys), Alejandro Miguelez (7-8 advanced boys) and Jennifer Robson (7-8 advanced girls) got fourth place, Nikita Capalb (7-8 advanced boys) won bronze, Kim Hopkins (7-8 advanced girls) earned silver while William Carr (9-10 advanced boys) won gold. Nancy Baker won gold in veteran women advanced sparring.
In black belt sparring, Patrick Gourde finished in fourth place, Jevon Rudder got a bronze medal, Ben Clarke and Brigitte Pellerin earned silver while Zoë Houle and Nico Campagna won gold.
